CONDUCT

We believe that live roleplaying is a cooperative, social experience. Whilst some aspects of the games may be confrontational, we expect all participants to act in a way that enhances the experience of others. Respect each other, and build a fun game together.

It is essential that players 'check-in' with each other after emotionally charged scenes, to ensure that all is well. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that their in-game actions do not cause off-game consequences.

Equally, it is every participant's responsibility to look after their own welfare by engaging with calibration mechanics in good faith, and raising any issues to the organisers as soon as they arise.

We encourage anyone with concerns about another player's conduct to contact us. We will take a pro-active approach to any conduct issues.

DISCRIMINATION

It is generally unacceptable to act in a manner that discriminates against others based on any out-of-game characteristic (for example gender, age, race, sexuality). However some events may feature discrimination as a central theme of the setting- this will be explicitly stated and discussed on the event page. Do not assume that it is appropriate to enact all real-world discrimination based on the setting of the event. For example, in a 1913 event we might aim to explore the complex issues facing women as they fight for the right to vote. This will include exploration of discrimination based on class and gender. We might also exclude themes of race and sexuality and therefore it is unacceptable for characters to discriminate along these lines.

It is never acceptable to use discriminatory slurs, even if they refer to discrimination explicitly present in the game setting.

PHYSICAL

Our events are often inspired by the locations we have found. We generally aim to select venues that are immersive and evoke both the time period and the general 'vibe' of our games. We also have physical accessibility in mind at all times.

We will always strive to find a site that meets all criteria. We will be very clear about where our compromises will be made. Where compromises are significant we will run two separate runs of the same game in an effort to balance them out. One that prioritises location aesthetic, and one that prioritises physical and financial accessibility.

Please see individual event pages for venue details. We are happy to answer any questions and can provide measurements as needed.

Medical devices and mobility aids will always be acceptable at our events, and do not need to be period appropriate.

FINANCIAL

Our events are varied, with a range of costs. We are aware that some events will be outwith some budgets. If an event has a participation cost over £200 we will consider running an accessible version of the game that prioritises financial and physical accessibility over location aesthetic.

We will also offer understudy roles for some games. These will have an lower participation fee, with the understanding that the participant is willing to take on any essential character role that becomes available due to another participant dropping out. In the event that there are no dropouts, their character may have fewer plot-essential links.

DIETARY

We intend to have food at our events that will suit the setting, whilst still catering to dietary requirements. This may involve portrayal of food scarcity, eating scavenged food, or using food as bartering or plot items. In these cases this will be clearly signposted and there will always be an off-game space provided for participants to store and consume their own food and drink so that they do not have to suffer!

There is a section in each booking form where dietary requirements can be noted. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

COSTUME

All of our events are set in specific timer periods and settings. We aim to be as accurate as we can with setting and props, and will provide information guides for player costume. Accessibility is important to us, and so options for affordable costume will always be presented where possible.

It is never acceptable to call-out or insult the costume of another player.

KNOWLEDGE

Whilst we encourage you to do some research before attending, our events are not intended to test your knowledge of the setting or real world history. Our aim is to create events where players can immerse themselves in a simulated setting, and then interact with each other. The characters you create might be political experts, or they may be mostly ignorant of everything outside of their own interests. The amount of setting and historical knowledge your character possesses is up to you.

It is never acceptable to call-out another player either in-game or off-game for their lack of historical knowledge.

If you have any questions or concerns please send us an email, or use the Facebook and Discord groups to start a conversation.
