The Venue
Our croft is set in the fabulous Marthrown of Mabie campsite set in the middle of Mabie forest near Dumfries.
The accommodation on site is varied: from the celtic roundhouse to the glamping yurts, to the crofters cottages. Facilities in each type of accommodation vary. There is also loads of space for tents in the meadow.
There is also a rope assault course, hot-tub and sauna!
Physical Accessibility
Marthrown of Mabie campsite is arranged over three distinct areas
The Croft: this is a small central courtyard surrounded on 4 sides by crofters cottages. The most accessible accommodation is here, with ensuite bathrooms and a small kitchenette. The footing here is solid. There are several small steps.
The Gathering Place: a short walk around the back of the cottages brings us to the large space that holds the BBQ shelter, the hot-tub and the sauna. Underfoot is flat grass, with a slope leading up to the sauna/hot-tub. There is one yurt located close to this space.
The Meadow: this area is on a small rise, giving excellent views over Mabie forest and fields in the distance. Here we have the celtic roundhouse, several yurts, and space for loads of tents. Footing here is gravel paths and grass, with some inclines. Yurts have electricity and small kitchenettes, the toilets are outdoor composting toilets.
Vehicles can be driven up to park very close to the crofters cottages. We can also drive around the site to bring people up to the Meadow. There is no way to drive through the site itself.
There will be a space on the booking form to indicate accessibility needs- we will strive to meet these needs, and be clear in our communications regarding any adaptations required.
