Physical Accessibility

Accommodation at Gearrannan Blackhouse Village is arranged as 4 historic stone cottages gathered close together on the edge of the Atlantic ocean. We can't imagine a more evocative place to set our game!

- Beds are a mix of singles, doubles and bunks

- Nobody will be required to share a double bed

- Bedding is provided

- One cottage will be designated off-game, with a small kitchen and seating area for snacks and relaxation

There is a gravel path between the houses which is even and sloped down towards the coast. Vehicles have to park approximately 100 metres away in a carpark, and cannot drive up to the cottages themselves.

Entrance to each cottage involves a wooden door with several stone steps down into the lowered accommodation area inside. Once inside the accommodation is level throughout.

The interiors of the cottages are somewhat cosy, with limited space between furniture: see photos below.

There is a small grassy area around the cottages with bench seating that participants are free to use. In good weather participants can make use of these areas, including walking down to the ocean's edge. Footing is uneven.

Travel Information

Participants will need to arrange their own transport to Lewis, an island in the north of Scotland. This will involve either a flight or ferry to Stornoway.

Flight: Loganair runs a service to Stornoway from Glasgow Airport, and from Edinburgh Airport. The flight is around 1.5 hours

Ferry: Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) runs a ferry service from Ullapool to Stornoway. The trip takes about 2.5 hours. You can use this service as a pedestrian or take your vehicle across on the ferry.

We can arrange for taxi transport between Stornoway ferry terminal or airport to the game venue at Gearrannan if required.

We recommend that participants book their flight or ferry as soon as possible, to avoid issues with availability.

There is the potential for adverse weather to interrupt flights and ferries. If this were to happen, we will endeavour to continue with the game. This may mean that participants arrive a day late. We will try our best to make it work! As with any kind of travel, it is up to participants to decide if they want to take out travel insurance to cover any unforseen eventualities.
